Matt Light & Family Help Kick Off 'CBS 4 Kids'

CBS4 & Children's Hospital Announce A Renewed Partnership

Matt Light's Baby Boy Receieved Life-Saving Surgery At Children's

BOSTON (CBS4) ― Here at CBS4 we share a special partnership with Children's Hospital Boston that goes back almost 25 years. Now, we're kicking off a new, year round public service campaign called 'CBS 4 Kids.'

Lisa Hughes sat down with Patriots lineman Matt Light and his wife Susie, to learn about their relationship with Children's, and how it grew when their son was born.

Collin Light was just seconds old when he was rushed to cardiologists at Children's Hospital.

"I followed him as he left the room and made his journey over to Children's Hospital as they began putting in all the wires and hooking him up and it was tough, tough to watch all that," says Collin's dad, Matt Light.

Both Matt and Susie knew before Collin's birth that it would be tough road.

With cutting-edge, 3D imaging doctors had seen Collin's heart defect even before he was born.

And though the Lights had visited kids at the hospital before, there was no way to fully prepare for their own experience.

"When it's your child it's just completely different," Matt says. "You're just sitting there not knowing what to expect from him."

Collin had two heart surgeries in his first 10 days.

Now, six months later, he's doing fine.

His doctor at Children's, Dr. Gerald Marx, credits Collin's parents for his recovery. "There's no doubt about it. Both Matt and Susie's very positive outlook on life really made a huge difference in how Collin has done."

Now the Light Foundation's mission is "better living through giving." With a $25,000 check, they hope to help give other kids the gift of good health.

Doctor's expect Collin to live a long and healthy life.
