A beach on Cape Cod is one of the top 10 beaches in the U.S., according to a new report.

Coast Guard Beach in Eastham came in at number 9 on "Dr. Beach" Stephen Leatherman's 2009 list of top 10 beaches, which was released Friday.

Hanalei Bay in Kauai, Hawaii was number one.

Leatherman based his selections on 50 criteria, including water quality and temperature, cleanliness, weather, sand, safety and facilities.

He is the director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research.

Hawaii has won 12 times since Leatherman started the list in 1991. Florida beaches have been named tops six times.
