A Springfield man will be arraigned Tuesday for kidnapping and murdering a pizza delivery driver.
Colin Lind, a delivery driver for the Domino's on Boston Road in Springfield, was reported missing after he didn't return from a "routine delivery" at around 3am Sunday morning.
Monday, police found a body in a wooded area of neighboring Monson, but investigators wouldn't confirm if it was the body of the missing 20-year-old Chicopee man.
Alex Morales was already being held on armed robbery, kidnapping and carjacking charges in the case, and according to the District Attorney those charges will now include murder as well.
Word quickly spread about the discovery of the body and family members told the Springfield Republican newspaper that they couldn't believe what appeared to have been going on.
"Why him? It doesn't make any sense", said Justin Bruneau, Lind's stepbrother. Bruneau described him as kind-hearted, generous and friendly: "
He was a good kid. He'd help you out no matter what you needed."
Family members told the paper that Lind was only working at Domino's for a couple of months to "make a little extra money."
Dominic Benvenuti, supervisor at pizza shop, told the newspaper that it was a "routine delivery, one that was no different than any of the dozens of runs a driver makes each shift." He said Lind didn't have a large amount of money on him, and that the pizza chain has a long-standing policy against drivers carrying large amounts of cash.
"It's devastating to everyone here. We're just trying to help the people and try to support Corey's family as best we can," Benvenuti said.
