Danvers Family Becomes First On Street To Rebuild

DANVERS (WBZ) ― A Danvers family is starting over after their home was destroyed in a devastating explosion.

Alan and Andrea Farrell are now rebuilding and they hope their effort is the beginning of neighborhood rejuvenation.

For 22 years Alan and Andrea Farrell have lived at 8 Bates Street, which is now not much except a frame but the family's future looks bright.

"We never thought we would be able to build a brand new house. It just wasn't in the plan," Andrea Farrell said.

Their plans changed when this neighborhood was rocked back in November in the Danvers chemical plant explosion. Dozens of homes were destroyed.

"It's been a real life changing experience it really has. You know you go bed one night and everything is hunky dory and then you wake up and you wonder where the next meal is coming from or where you're going to sleep that night. So its been difficult," said Alan Farrell.

The Farrell's are the first to rebuild on the street.

While the rest of Bates Street looks like an abandoned ghost town. The Farrell's hope their new home will serve as a beacon of light and encourage other families to rebuild.
