Ex-Owner Of NH Crematorium Says He Broke No Laws
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) ―
The former owner of a Seabrook, N.H., crematorium accused of mishandling cremations is disputing criminal charges because he says the state does not regulate the industry.
Derek Wallace, of Salisbury, faces numerous charges of allowing cremations to take place at Bayview Crematorium without following the proper steps. But Wallace contends he didn't break any laws because New Hampshire has few laws governing crematoria.
Since state authorities raided Bayview in February 2005, lawmakers have taken a closer look at New Hampshire's crematorium rules. They have proposed tightening the rules for inspection and licensing of the facilities.
