Newton Woman Drowns In Ocean Off Cape Cod

DENNISPORT (CBS4) ― The body of a 80-year-old Newton woman was found in the ocean off a beach on Cape Cod Thursday night.

Rita Karpova was last seen telling a friend that she was going for a swim in Chases Ocean Grove in Dennisport.

We're told there were no lifeguards on duty at the private beach.

The Coast Guard began a search around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The victim was found floating near the mouth of the Bass River about three hours later.

Karpova has been vacationing with friends in Dennisport since Saturday.
