EEE, West Nile Virus Found In 3 Counties
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The EEE and West Nile viruses have been detected in mosquitos in Essex, Norfolk and Plymouth counties, according to state health officials.
The infected mosquito pools were found in Plympton, Salem, Swampscott and Weymouth.
The state Department of Public Health is working with mosquito control boards in those counties to increase mosquito surveillance and control.
There have been no human cases of Eastern Equine Encephelatis or West Nile virus identified this year.
Health officials are urging people to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, and also to help reduce standing water on their property.
