EEE, West Nile Found In More Mass. Counties
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Health officials said mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis have been found in more Massachusetts communities.
Mosquitoes carrying West Nile were found in Swampscott, Brockton and Easton.
Mosquitoes infected with eastern equine encephalitis turned up in Halifax, Kingston and West Bridgewater.
The announcement comes less than one week after state health officials announced that EEE and West Nile viruses were found in Essex, Norfolk and Plymouth counties. Those mosquito pools were found in Plympton, Salem, Swampscott and Weymouth.
There have been no human cases of either disease in the Bay State so far this year.
Public health officials are urging the public to use insect repellent and eliminate standing water around their homes.
