Red Sox Trade Renteria To Atlanta For Prospect
DALLAS, TX (CBS4) ―
The Boston Red Sox have traded shortstop Edgar Renteria to the Atlanta Braves. CBS4's Dan Roche says the Red Sox will get third base prospect Andy Marte from the Braves.
As part of the deal, the Red Sox will also pay part of Renteria's salary. He was in the second year of a 4-year, $40 million dollar contract. How much the Red Sox will pay is still unclear.
Renteria struggled in his one year here.
He hit .276 with 8 home runs and 70 runs batted in. He also led the league with 30 errors, despite winning two Gold Gloves in 2002 and 2003.
According to the Braves website, Marte spent much of last year in AAA Richmond, hitting .275 with 20 home runs and 74 RBI.
He was promoted to Atlanta twice, hitting only .140 with 4 RBI in 57 at bats.
