A Waltham man who hired a hitman to kill his estranged wife's boyfriend has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
James Brescia was convicted Tuesday of murder and conspiracy for paying a hitman $10,000 to kill 39-year-old Edward Schiller, who was found shot to death in a parking garage next to his Newton office on Jan. 13, 2006.
At Brescia's sentencing hearing Friday, Schiller's brother, Carl, said Brescia's "selfish, cowardly" acts had stolen his brother from his family.
Brescia's attorney said he plans to ask for a new trial because he claims Brescia's testimony was compromised by a stroke he suffered during the trial.
Scott Foxworth, the man charged with shooting Schiller, faces a separate trial.
