Official: Coach Resignation Not Related To Hazing
Reportedly Resigned For Personal Reasons
FAIRHAVEN (CBS4) ―
The school superintendent in Fairhaven is insisting that the resignation of a Fairhaven High School football coach is not related to a suspected hazing incident that occurred at a private camp that coaches and players from the school were attending.
Fairhaven High School's head football coach, Chris Foster, resigned last week, citing personal reasons. At around the same time, allegations came up that several football players from the high school were involved in a hazing incident at Camp Wishbone, a private football camp located in Bourne where Foster was a staff member.
The Fairhaven school superintendent, Robert Baldwin, said Foster's resignation was not related to the alleged hazing.
"Although Mr. Foster and other coaches affiliated with the Fairhaven High School did attend this camp, we have absolutely no knowledge or suspicion of these individuals acting improperly. This is an investigation of our athletic code of ethics and not a personnel issue," Baldwin said.
"There was a moral and ethical obligation because they were our students at a private camp to look into the situation immediately," he added.
Football practices were scheduled to start on Monday, August 21, but will be pushed back until Fairhaven High School can find a replacement head coach. Baldwin said he hopes to have the program started again by the end of the week.
