Charge Against Former Worthington Juror Dropped
FALMOUTH (CBS4) ―
A former juror in the Christa Worthington murder trial will reportedly not be charged in connection with a shooting last month.
According to a report in the Cape Cod Times, the Cape and Islands District Attorney's office has dropped an accessory charge against 22-year-old Rachel Huffman in an attempted murder in Falmouth.
District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said Monday there was not enough evidence to charge Huffman as an accessory after the fact of attempted murder in the Nov. 11 shooting of Michael Hendricks. Her boyfriend, Kyle Hicks, is one of two men charged in the shooting.
Huffman was dismissed from the Worthington trial Nov. 14 after she was heard disparaging police and talking about news reports of the trial in recorded conversations with the jailed Hicks. An alternate replaced her, and the jury convicted Christopher McCowen two days later.
Huffman is still facing charges of larceny under $250, possession of stolen Registry of Motor Vehicles documents and possession of marijuana that police found in her purse when she was arrested Wednesday.
Her lawyer, Drew Segadelli, said she felt victimized. Huffman's and Hicks' friends and family say they had no role in the shooting. Hendricks has said Hicks was not the one who shot him.
Investigators said two of the suspects used Huffman's car to drive to and from the crime scene. Police found one of the suspects, who gave them a false name, hiding in Huffman's closet.
Police said they found more than 300 vehicle inspection stickers inside her car. Huffman has said the stickers were there when she bought the car in August. Segadelli said he's confident Huffman will be cleared of the charges related to the stickers.
