MA Residents Spending Millions At CT Casinos
NEW LONDON, CT (CBS4) ―
New research shows Massachusetts residents spent more than $800 million at the two Connecticut casinos in 2005.
The Center for Policy Analysis at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, released a third annual study Tuesday tracking the spending habits at the Connecticut casinos, the Rhode Island racinos and the newly opened Hollywood Slots in Bangor, Maine.
Massachusetts residents spent $889.3 million at the Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun last year and $190.2 million at the Rhode Island racinos.
Rhode Islanders spent $322.5 million at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun and $257.4 million at the slot halls in their own state.
"The story has not changed," Clyde W. Barrow, director of the center said. "Once again, Massachusetts and Rhode island residents provide more than 40 percent of the combined revenues fueling the phenomenal growth and success of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun."
Connecticut residents spent $1.1 billion at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, according to the study; while New York residents spent $410 million. New Hampshire residents spent $73 million,
The study estimated overall revenues of $1.57 billion at Foxwoods and $1.42 billion at Mohegan Sun for 2005.
