Haleigh's Mother Fighting For More Say In Care

HOLYOKE (CBS4) ― Haleigh Poutre's birth mother wants more of a say in her daughter's medical care.

Allison Avrett filed a motion Wednesday in Holyoke Juvenile Court. Another hearing will be scheduled in the next few weeks.

12-year-old Haleigh has been hospitalized since police say her adoptive mother and stepfather severely beat her in September.

About a week after taking custody of the Westfield girl in September, the Department of Social Services sought permission to remove her from life support.

But after a legal battle between the D-S-S and Haleigh's stepfather -- who was trying to keep her on life support -- Haleigh showed signs of improvement.
