Hilltop Auction, From The Cows To The Kitchen Sink

Braintree Steak House Selling Off Everything

BRAINTREE (WBZ) ― Big fake cows, a huge sign and several other pieces of a unique local landmark all went on sale to the public Wednesday.

The Hilltop Steak House and Butcher Shop auctioned off the items after ending it's 16-year run in Braintree Feb. 10, to make way for a car dealership.

The familiar giant cactus sign and those fiberglass cows sold quickly. The sign went up for $100. One of the tattered cows sold for $800. One man bought four cows for his wife so she could bring them to her school in Scituate.

Antler chandeliers, chaps, boots, wall art, and even saddles were among the items on the block. There were also chairs, tables, kitchen appliances, and even light fixtures for restaurateurs who were looking for deals.

The Hilltop has plans to re-open the butcher shop in another, yet-to-be-determined, South Shore location.

The original Hilltop on Route 1 in Saugus, which opened in 1961, remains open for business.
