'Hollywood East' Company Buys Plymouth Golf Course

PLYMOUTH (WBZ) ― There is a new location for a proposed Plymouth movie studio.

Owners of Plymouth Rock Studios have abandoned plans to build in West Plymouth and now say they will build a huge complex on a South Plymouth golf course.

Bill Wynn, the managing partner, says the Waverly Oaks golf course is an "awesome location."

The land is privately owned and once it is sold for an undisclosed price Plymouth Rock Studios will build a large movie complex on the 240 acres.

It will include 14 state-of-the-art sound stages and will be friendly to the environment.

Plymouth Town Manager Mark Sylvia says the project will be good for the town's economy because it will "create new jobs."

Construction will not begin until 2010 because the land needs to re-zoned for this business purpose and requires public hearings.

Movie studio owners soon should be able to take advantage of generous state tax credits worth millions of dollars designed to entice the industry to make Massachusetts a permanent home.

Sources say the movie tax credit bill will be passed and sent to the Gov. Deval Patrick in a matter of weeks.  He told WBZ Thursday he wants to read the bill before making a final decision.

There are also plans by another group, International Studio Group, to build a $300 million studio complex on the grounds of the old Weymouth Naval Air Station in an area now know as Southfield.

Executives told WBZ Thursday they will be ready to build by the end of the year once the tax credits are approved.
