Hub Firefighter Faces Assault Charges

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A veteran Boston firefighter was free on $400 bail Monday night following his arrest on assault charges.

Wayne Abron, 41, was beating his girlfriend in the back yard of his home on Howard Avenue in Roxbury when he was arrested, police said. He was covered in blood, they said.

Abron fought with police who tried to arrest him, police said. It took several officers to subdue him, they said.

Abron was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer; one count of assault and battery on his girlfriend; and single counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released after posting bail.

Abron is due back in court April 23, the district attorney's office said.

The woman was treated at a local hospital and released, officials said.

Abron is an 18-year veteran of the Fire Department, officials said.
