Researchers will perform a necropsy on the dead Humpback whale found floating off Stellwagen Bank last weekend.
Experts with the Cape Cod Stranding Network were familiar with the whale, known as "Tofu." The two-year-old whale had been sighted several times this season by whale watch and research teams.
The 32-foot-long whale weighed more than 10 tons.
Preliminary results suggest blunt trauma as a possible cause of death, but confirmation may take several months.
