DNA Results In Student Murder Inconclusive

(CBS4) On Friday, there was some frustrating news for New York Police as they search for Imette St. Guillen's killer. Detectives think they have their man, but the investigation has hit a snag. Initial DNA results came back inconclusive.

Security was tight at criminal court in queens on Thursday after a judge ordered Darryl Littlejohn to appear there in a rape investigation line-up. When the October rape victim did not identify Littlejohn as her attacker, detectives escorted the ex-con back to Riker's Island.

"Of course he's upset he knows his face has been published everywhere across the country," said Kevin O'Donnell, Littlejohn's attorney. "He's just a scapegoat."

Littlejohn is also the prime suspect in the murder of Imette St. Guillen. The bouncer reportedly escorted the Boston woman from the Manhattan bar where she was last seen alive in the early hours of February 25.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told WCBS-TV Wednesday night that the St. Guillen murder investigation hinges largely on forensic evidence at this point. Detectives searched Littlejohn's home in Queens for evidence earlier this week. They packed up clothes and other materials. WCBS is reporting crime scene investigators have removed drains from the Queens home of Darryl Littlejohn.

"He's trying to clean up his life, he was trying to do the right thing, and unfortunately, he was in the wrong place at wrong time," said O'Donnell.

Community activist Jeff Ragsdale did not know Imette St. Guillen, but he wants The Falls to shut down and the bar's owners held responsible for employing a career criminal as their bouncer. Ragsdale is planning a rally outside of The Falls Friday night where he expects some 300 people to attend.

"Why are they lying -- that's our question," said Ragsdale. "What else are they lying about? What we want is legislation where there's background checks thorough on all bouncers in New York City. We want legislation so this never happens again."

This case is prompting calls for change in New York City's parole system. Federal probation officials in New York tell CBS4 they did not even know Darryl Littlejohn was out of prison.

The chief probation officer tells CBS4, "We have 3,800 offenders in the federal probation system, we can't follow them all."

Imette St. Guillen's family is pleading with anyone who has information about this case to come forward.

They released a statement that reads -- in part: "anything you know or saw -- no matter how small -- might be crucial to the investigation. And we are confident that whoever committed this crime will be brought to justice."
