Is Johnny Damon Leaving Boston Red Sox?

BOSTON (CBS4) ― Free agent outfielder Johnny Damon may be on his way to saying goodbye to Boston.

Damon told CBS4's Dan Roche that there are three major players involved right now. He said Boston still remains a top choice, but he hasn't heard back from them personally since they offered him a four-year deal at $40 million 10 days ago.

It's not clear what the Dodgers would have to offer for him to take a deal.

Roche spoke briefly with Damon on the phone tonight and asked him what the chances of him signing someplace else are.

"There's a good chance," said Damon. "We're still talking. I should know in the next couple of days."

If Damon does go to LA, he would be reunited with his old manager Grady Little, as well as pitcher Derek Lowe and just signed third baseman Bill Mueller.

"We had a tight-knit group in Boston," said Damon. "I'd like to be in a place that is comfortable. And hey, Nomar could end up with me in either LA or New York."

Damon added that he's heading back to Orlando to chill out and try to figure things out.
