Druce Murder Trial Postponed Until Thursday
WORCESTER (CBS4) ―
Testimony is the murder trial of Joseph Druce was postponed again Wednesday because the lead defense lawyer is sick.
The trial was put off Wednesday because defense attorney John LaChance and a juror were ill. The trial is expected to resume Thursday.
Druce is the prison inmate charged with beating and strangling convicted pedophile priest John Geoghan.
The jury heard testimony last week that Druce confessed to prison authorities that he killed Geoghan because he wanted to (quote) "save the children."
During the first week of the trial, Druce was generally subdued in the courtroom. But during recesses when the jury was out of the courtroom, he often shouted out his views to reporters. During one break, he yelled out that Cardinal Bernard Law should be "held responsible for crimes against innocent children."
When the defense begins presenting its case, attorneys will try to convince the jury that Druce was mentally ill and not responsible for his actions.
