Psychiatric Tests For Esplanade Groping Suspect
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
A 30-year-old man accused of groping a mother and her child on the Esplanade has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Prosecutors say Kodjo Simpri of New York grabbed the woman and her young child in the Esplanade playground Tuesday afternoon.
The woman broke free, ran off with her child and contacted police.
Several hours later, around 8:40 p.m., a state trooper found Simpri sitting on a bench about 20 yards from the scene of the alleged attack. He was arrested and taken into custody for the night.
He told police his name was Rearlimgigeazr Eshiesycapilla and that he was 23 years old.
During an appearance in Charlestown District Court Wednesday, prosecutors revealed his real name and age.
Simpri was to be arraigned on one count of indecent assault and battery and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under fourteen.
But the judge sent him to Bridgewater State Hospital for an evaluation to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
Simpri is due back in court for a status hearing July 11.
Police increased patrols on the Esplanade earlier this month after a woman was sexually assaulted while jogging there late at night on June 16.
Investigators don't know if Simpri had anything to do with that incident.
