Lawrence Woman Killed In Possible Plow Accident

LAWRENCE (CBS) ―

Lawrence Police are investigating the death of a woman who may have been killed by a snowplow.

Deborah Hoare, 39, of Lawrence was found lying in the road Sunday night at the intersection of Route 114 and Chickering Road.

She had suffered serious head injuries, and died before she could reach the hospital.

Police believe Hoare may have been struck by a snowplow, although they are not ruling out the possibility that another vehicle struck her.

"While there were people who observed her on the roadway, no one actually saw what had happened to her," Lawrence Police Chief John Romero told WBZ's Bill Shields.

Authorities say Hoare had just left her job at Burger King and was walking home.

Sidewalks in the area had not been cleared yesterday, and pedestrians were forced to walk in the road along busy Route 114.

"I think it's crazy, they should plow it," one woman said as she walked with her teenage daughter. "I'm a little nervous with my daughter, yeah."

"I'm thinking I'm going to get hit," the daughter said.

City officials say it is the responsibility of property owners to clear the sidewalks in front of their properties.
