Efforts To Reattach Toddler's Lip Successful
LOWELL (WBZ) ―
The Lowell toddler whose entire lip was bitten off by his own father is slowly getting better, and according to police, efforts to reattach the little boy's lip were initially successful.
The 22-month-old boy was allegedly attacked by his 26-year-old father, who is now being evaluated at Lowell General Hospital. During his arraignment on Monday in a Lowell hospital room, the father was ordered held on $25,000 bail.
Police said they were called to 1370 Middlesex Street around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on a report that a child's lip had been bitten off. They said they found the boy covered in blood and were able to recover the detached lip. The boy was rushed to Children's Hospital in Boston where he is being treated.
According to prosecutors, the 26-year-old was high on ecstasy when he assaulted the toddler.
The father faces charges of Mayhem, assault and battery on a child and domestic assault and battery.
