MBTA Adding Security Cameras To 155 Buses

BOSTON (AP) ― The MBTA is spending $1.4 million dollars to install security cameras on 155 buses.

The addition of more cameras comes days after a teenager was killed last Friday in a daytime shooting aboard a bus in Dorchester.

Ten buses are currently equipped with cameras.

The new ones will be added to buses that travel through neighborhoods most affected by this year's spike in violent crime.

The agency's board of directors voted on the move today at their regular meeting.

Each bus will have eight cameras inside and outside.

MBTA General Manager Daniel Grabauskas requested the new cameras, saying they'll act as a deterrent against crime.
