BOSTON (CBS4) ― MBTA passengers who live in the suburbs may wind up paying more for their ride than they need to.

Starting next month, fares are going up for everyone, but people who pay cash or get a "Charlie Ticket" will pay a higher price than those who buy the new "Charlie Card."

The problem is, there are no Charlie Card vending machines in Waltham, Watertown, or Newton. So, if bus passengers don't take a trip into Boston, they will be forced to pay the higher fare.

The Charlie Card is available at all subway stations and will soon be available to purchase on the MBTA's website. It is also available at the following retailers by the end of the year:
