Report: 30% Of Commuter Trains Ran Late Last Month

BOSTON (AP) ― An increasing number of delays on MBTA commuter rail lines has riders fuming and operators pointing fingers.

The Boston Globe reports that 30 percent of commuter trains ran at least five minutes late in October, the worst monthly performance of the year.

The Worcester, Fairmont and Needham lines reported late arrivals on about half of all runs last month.

MBTA General Manager Daniel Graubaskas blames the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company, the private consortium that operates the trains and has a contractual obligation to be on time 95 percent of the time.

The company blames the MBTA for faulty equipment and CSX Transportation -- which owns the rails -- for disrupting its schedule.

Grabauskas says riders don't care who's to blame, they just want to get to work on time.
