Man Missing In Water Off Deer Island

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The search continued Friday for a 60-year-old man who apparently fell overboard off a pleasure boat in Boston Harbor.

A Coast Guard helicopter led a second day of searching for Anthony Tufo of Quincy. A Coast Guard cutter and vessels from several agencies, including the State Police, continued looking into the afternoon.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell said the summer air and relatively warm 65 degree water improve Tufo's chances of surviving. His family said he was in good physical condition, but he was not wearing a life vest.

The Coast Guard was called at about 6 p.m. Thursday by the 34-foot Nina Maria, after Tufo fell into the water near Deer Island.

The boat was on its way to the Winthrop Yacht Club.
