Manchester,
New Hampshire police officers are sharing their pain after the death of a comrade,
Michael Briggs, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week.
Briggs, a 35-year-old husband and father of two died Tuesday afternoon, one day after he was shot in the head while on duty. He was the first Manchester police officer killed in the line of duty in 30 years.
Michael Addison, 26, was arrested without incident about 5:30 p.m. Monday at his grandmother's apartment in Dorchester after a massive manhunt in two states.
"He was always smiling. I never saw him not smiling and with this job that's a hard thing to do sometimes," said Officer Brian O' Keefe. "Here it is four days later and we're still trying to see if somebody is going to pinch us and wake us up and say, 'hey this is a bad dream.'"
Briggs was shot 15 minutes before the end of his shift, allegedly by Addison.
Officers said there has been a tremendous outpouring of support from the community. The officers said they hope to keep the memory of Briggs alive by following his example.
