There is a massive search underway for an escaped inmate in southeastern Massachusetts.
He walked away from a minimum-security prison in Bridgewater after news broke that he faces new charges.
The Department of Corrections said 51-year-old Manson Brown escaped from the Old Colony Correctional Center Friday evening after word got out that he was indicted on rape and home invasion charges in a 1996 attack in Cambridge.
Brown was serving a 10-year sentence for home invasion and armed robbery.
He was scheduled for release in 2012.
Last week, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office indicted Brown after a DNA sample from Cambridge matched evidence taken from his arrest on another matter.
Officials believe Brown's escape was triggered by news reports about the new charges before the state Department of Corrections was formally notified to revoke his minimum-security designation.
State, county and local police are now searching for him.
Authorities released two photos of him Saturday.
He's 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweat pants.
Anyone with information should call police immediately.
Brown had prior walk-aways in 1982 from MCI-Plymouth and in 1983 from Brooke House, a residential contract house.
