Massachusetts Most Wanted Sex Offender Captured

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A 50-year-old man on Massachusetts' most wanted sex offender list was captured in San Diego, bringing an end to a two-year investigation, state police officials said.

Mark LaPerle is a high risk level 3 sex offender and was wanted by state police after he fled the state.

He was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender after being released from prison.  He was convicted of four counts of rape of a child under the age of 16 in 1992. In 1991, he was convicted of indecent assault and batter and has been classified as a high risk sex offender.

State police were able to track LaPerle to Texas and eventually to San Diego where officials arrested him.

He is currently being held by the San Diego Police Department until he is transported back to Massachusetts.
