Police Release 911 Details Of Jail Officer Killing

Read The Entire 911 Transcripts

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Boston police have released the 911 transcripts from last week's deadly standoff with a corrections officer.  The documents show officers were warned Marquis Barker's weapon was a pellet gun, but they also suggest that no one was really sure.

His widow, Kim Sanders Barker, says she called police last Wednesday evening when she saw that Barker was wild-eyed, foaming at the mouth and slurring his words.

According to transcripts released Tuesday, she told the 911 operator her husband had a weapon - but not a real gun.

"He has a pellet gun I think in his hand.  He's pointing it (at) cars."

Moments later she told the operator:

"I just don't want them to shoot him because he has --"

911 Operator: "I'll let them know that he's not mentally right now.  He's having a breakdown, so they'll proceed cautiously."

Police operations then relayed the information to a responding officer:

"Caller said the husband, he works for the Sheriff's Department he's out on the street with a pellet gun right now.  He's having a breakdown."

The officer followed with this question:

"Are we sure it's a pellet gun sir?"

Operations responded:

"We're not positive it is.  That's what she said and then she said it…she's not sure."

Multiple 911 calls were also made by neighbors about a man with a gun.  Police say Barker pointed it at them, himself and others.

One caller told police:

"There's a man outside my house and he just pulled a gun on me… He pulled me out of my car."

After officers arrived Barker stole a police cruiser, drove into a Walgreens parking lot and allegedly pointed the gun at police.  They fired back, killing him.

The day after the shooting Kim Sanders told WBZ:

"I need answers.  In terms of why did they let it get to the extent they did in terms of shooting this man in the manner that they did."

Boston police commissioner Ed Davis and Suffolk County district attorney Dan Conley have promised a full investigation.
