Four Face Hate Crime Charges After Brutal Beating
MARSHFIELD (AP) ―
Four teens face hate crime and attempted murder charges after allegedly beating a black man in Marshfield and stabbing him with broken beer bottles and sticks.
Police say the group attacked the Boston man in front of a restaurant Wednesday while shouting racial slurs.
Witnesses told police about a dozen people chased the alleged victim as he ran.
The man, whom police didn't identify, was treated for stab wounds and cuts and bruises.
Prosecutors charged Michael Anderson of Quincy, Jay Rains of Duxbury and Amanda Kelly of Marshfield, all 19, and 17-year-old Kevin Shdeed of Marshfield.
Rains told police he was jumped by a black man and sprayed with pepper spray, but witnesses told police that Rains and the others attacked the man.
Police said Rains repeatedly shouted racial slurs while officers were interviewing him.
