Middleboro Residents Get Details Of Casino Deal
MIDDLEBORO (WBZ) ―
Residents anxious to see the fine print in the town's casino agreement are finally getting their chance.
Selectmen and representatives of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe announced last Friday they had reached a deal to present to voters at a special Town Meeting on Saturday, July 28.
The agreement calls for the tribe to pay the town $11 million annually -- although only $7 million is guaranteed -- along with $250 million in infrastructure improvements.
The entire
43-page contract was posted on the town's web site earlier today.
Casino gambling still needs approval from the state. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has commissioned a panel to study gaming in Massachusetts. That report should be done by the end of the summer.
Grassroots campaigns on both sides of the casino issues are forming online, for more information you can log onto
