Memorial Service Held For Slain Young Woman
by Sera Congi
BOSTON (CBS4) ―
In Saturday's memorial service, Dominique's family and friends tried to come to terms with her death -- by remembering how the young woman lived.
Over 200 people came together at Milton High School to celebrate the life of Dominique Samuels, a Milton native and graduate from the class of 2004.
Police say the 19-year-old was killed. Her body was burned and found Sunday at Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain.
At the service, Dominique's loved ones said she had an impact on everyone she met, making her death difficult to accept.
"All I have to say to Dominique, is 'I love you, we will miss you, we love you D,'" said a friend.
"It is our love for Dominique in all its forms that will help us," said John Drottar, principal of Milton High School. "It is the sweet spirit that will strengthen us."
Dominique's family was at the service -- visibly moved by the outpouring -- and also uplifted by the spiritual support during the ceremony. Her brother spoke for the family.
Dominique loved each and every one of y'all and we want to thank you for your support and your prayers," said Vaughn Samuels.
It is a loss that brought together a community with a common goal: to heal.
The Medical Examiner has not yet released the exact cause of death. Investigators do not believe her death was random.
Right now, they are focusing on her home in Roxbury, but no arrests have been made.
