Worcester D.A. Refutes Man's Ties To Bish Probe

WARREN (CBS4) ― Worcester County District Attorney John Conte tells CBS4 there is no evidence at this time linking a Connecticut man to the Molly Bish investigation. The man is under arrest in upstate New York for allegedly trying to abduct a teenage girl there.

49-year-old John Regan was arrested in Saratoga Springs, New York on October 31, after a 17-year-old girl claimed he tried to pull her into his van. Police say he had a tarp and a noose in the van.

Regan is a married father of three from Waterbury, Connecticut who works as a roofing salesman and installer. There were reports investigators were reviewing his business trips to Sturbridge to see if he was in the Warren area when Bish disappeared on June 27, 2000. Conte says this is not true. He says they will review those records at some point, but they have to subpoena them first.

Sources close to the investigation tell CBS4 they are treating this just like any other tip and they will look at Regan just like anyone else. He is not a person of interest and he is not a possible suspect at this point.

Regan was already facing kidnapping charges in a 1993 incident with a co-worker. Connecticut police say he also had photos of unsuspecting girls developed at a Walgreens last month, which led to new stalking charges.

Bish was 16 years old when she disappeared. Her remains were found in nearby Palmer in 2003.
