Motorcycle Week Kicks Off In Lakes Region
LACONIA, N.H. (CBS4) ―
Motorcycle week is underway in the Lakes Region.
Governor John Lynch joined in a Bike Week kickoff Thursday at a Harley-Davidson dealership in Meredith. The event draws thousands of bikers to the area, and Lynch says he welcomes the tourism business they bring.
Last year bike week brought $41 million dollars to New Hampshire, said George Bald, Commissioner of Resources and Economic Development.
Earlier this week, several hotels and motels reported lagging reservations compared to previous years. "It's the slowest I've seen it in 13 years," said Steven Rogers, of the Bay Side Inn, which is on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton.
The final economic impact of this year's bike week remains to be seen.
Safety officials say they will be patrolling for noise, crowding and safe driving on the roads.
Laconia is the nation's third largest bike rally. It runs from Saturday June 10 through June 18.
