Timeline: Entwistle Murder Case Unfolds

(WBZ) WBZ obtained more than 200 pages of court documents related to the Entwistle murders. Neil Entwistle is under arrest, accused of killing his wife, Rachel, and their baby girl, Lillian, in their Hopkinton home on January 20th.

The 231 pages of documents included applications for search warrants and returns on the warrants detailing what investigators found in their searches of Entwistle's rented Hopkinton home, his in-law's home in Carver, his BMW and his computer. The following is information contained in those documents.


    Neil Entwistle's version of the events of January 20th:

  • He woke up at 7am and fed Lillian

  • At 9am he left the house to do errands

  • He went to Staples, and intended to go to Wal-mart, but did not

  • He returned home at 11am

  • He checked the baby's room but she was not there

  • He entered the master bedroom and saw his wife partially covered with the comforter

  • He pulled down the comforter, saw his wife was pale, saw blood on the baby and that the baby had been shot

  • He pulled the covers back over his wife and child

  • He ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and considered killing himself, but decided "it would hurt too much"

  • He decided to drive to Rachel's parents' home to tell them, because he did not have their phone number

  • He said he also went to the home to get a gun to shoot himself

  • He said Rachel's parents were not home and he could not get into the house

  • He drove to the airport and "walked around a bit"

  • He left the airport, started driving back to Hopkinton, but ended up buying gas

  • He returned to the airport, buying a ticket to London

  • In London, he rented a car and drove to his parents' home to tell them what happened


    Other Information In the Court Documents:
  • There was no sign of forced entry at the Entwistle home.

  • Food and plates were laid out "as if the family was getting ready for a meal."

  • No guns or shell casings were found at the scene of the murders.

  • Neil Entwistle told police he saw that baby Lillian had been shot. Police say there was no visible gunshot wound on the baby, until she was moved from the bed.

  • Police seized and searched two computer and a Palm Pilot from Neil Entwistle's home. They also searched a computer that Neil had used at the home of Rachel's parents.

  • Entwistle allegedly typed in internet searches for "how to kill yourself," "suicide, "how to kill someone with a knife," and "euthanasia."

  • Entwistle allegedly viewed an online document on January 16 and 17 which "describes how to kill people by various methods."

  • Entwistle allegedly visited 'Adult Friend Finder' Web site, four days before the murders.

  • Two days before the murder, Entwistle allegedly conducted an internet search for "escort services," and that he obtained names and addresses of various providers of escort services in the Boston and Worcester metropolitan areas, including ones with such names as "Eye Candy Entertainment," "Exotic Express," and "Sweet Temptations"

  • One such listing "Blonde Beauties Escort Svc." included a telephone number and Yahoo map of their location in Worcester

  • Entwistle had a parking receipt from Logan Airport for the night before authorities believe he killed his wife and daughter, and two days before he flew to London.

  • Entwistle purchased a one-way plane ticket to London around 7am on January 21st. The ticket was for a 2:38pm flight, but he left on an 8:15am flight.

  • Entwistle checked no luggage.

  • The Entwistle's only car was found at Logan Airport. Among the items inside, was a set of keys to Rachel's parents' home. Entwistle told police he went to their home after he found Rachel and Lillian dead, but they were not home and he could not get into the home.

  • Entwistle's father called Rachel's stepfather the Monday after the murders, saying Neil claimed he found the bodies, called police, then fled to England.

  • About one hour later, Neil spoke by phone with a Massachusetts State Police detective for two hours.

  • Entwistle told police he was unemployed. He said he had a job interview scheduled on Friday, January 20, but it "did not work out" and he had not told his wife.

  • Entwistle told police that he wanted to try living in both the U.S. and England, but Rachel wanted to live in the U.S. and raise Lillian as an American.

  • Rachel's parents told police they believed Neil "had some sort of secret government job in England" which he could not talk about.

  • According to Rachel's parents, Rachel told them Neil would not answer questions about their finances, and this caused some conflict between Rachel and Neil.

  • According to Rachel's parents, Rachel told them she tried to use one of Neil's English credit cards, but the account had been frozen.

  • According to Rachel's parents, Rachel told them their money was tied up in "offshore accounts" that Neil would not talk about.

  • The Entwistle's had just signed a three month lease for their home and bought at least $6,000 of new furniture in the days leading up to the murders.

  • Rachel's parents gave police a make-shift business card they said Neil gave to them for "ENT Embedded New Technologies." The business card was "a folded piece of paper held together by cellophane tape." An internet search by police found the address for this company listed as Rachel's parents' home address.

  • Rachel's father had taken Neil target shooting in the past with his .22 caliber firearm. (Neil is accused of using that gun to kill his wife and child.)

  • The gun was kept locked in Rachel's parents' bedroom, but Neil knew the location of gun.

  • In the search warrants, detectives note Neil's apparent financial trouble as a likely motive for the murders.
