Report: Patriots Accused Of Spying On NY Jets
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
A New England Patriots cameraman's video camera and tape have been confiscated in a suspected spying incident against the New York Jets at Sunday's game, ESPN reported Monday.
Citing sources, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said NFL security took the video camera after the cameraman was suspected of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches who were sending signals to their unit on the field, which violates NFL policy.
League officials are investigating and could recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if they verify that the team was spying on the Jets.
ESPN said Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan reported a similar incident last Nov. 19 when the Patriots played at Lambeau Field. According to the report, Packers security official Doug Collins said the same cameraman being questioned about Sunday's incident was removed from the sideline and escorted from the field during the Nov. 19, 2006 game.
The NFL had no comment about the situation and both the Jets and the Patriots declined to comment.
The league is also investigating some radio frequency issues that came up during Sunday's game.
