Teen Killed By MBTA Train Identified
ROSLINDALE (WBZ) ―
A 15-year-old boy who was killed by an MBTA commuter train Tuesday has been identified.
Nicholas Scaringello was hit while walking with a friend on the tracks in Roslindale east of Bellevue Station around 6:30 p.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend jumped out of the way and was not hurt.
Witnesses said they heard the train sound its horn moments before the accident.
Scaringello had just completed his freshman year at Walpole High School, according to schools superintendent Lincoln Lynch.
"He was an outgoing, friendly student, who had a successful year at WHS," Lynch said in a statement.
"As is tradition, the citizens of Walpole will reach out to Nick's family in their time of deep sorrow."
Scaringello had played freshman football and was interested in playing again this fall.
Counseling will be provided for students at the high school through the rest of this week, starting at 8 a.m.
The MBTA says it is investigating. A spokesperson said the two boys were walking with their backs towards the oncoming train moments before the accident.
