Two Boston men are accused of preying on people's emotions by collecting donations they claimed were for the family of a fallen
Manchester, New Hampshire police officer.
Ricardo Acevedo and Ralph Gaskell are accused of going door-to-door posing as Massachusetts State Police troopers, soliciting donations for the family of
Officer Michael Briggs. The 35-year-old father of two was gunned down while on bike patrol in Manchester earlier this month.
According to police, 64 people in several East Boston neighborhoods gave donations to Acevedo and Gaskell.
Sergio Cannon was solicited by the pair but he became suspicious and called police. "It's completely wrong, lock them up."
They were in court Monday charged with 64 counts of Impersonating a Police Officer, Larceny by False Pretenses, and Entry by False Pretences.
CBS4 has learned both men have lengthy criminal records. They are each being held on $10,000 bail.
"A comment can't sum it up. You disgrace officer Briggs, his wife and two children. It's absolutely ridiculous," said Manchester Police Lt. Jim Stankiewicz.
