Free Parking For Hybrid Drivers In Boston? Maybe
BOSTON (CBS4) ―
If you drive a gas-saving hybrid car, there's a chance you could get free parking at meters across Boston someday.
Boston city councilor Paul Scapicchio is proposing the city give hybrid drivers not only free meter parking, but discounts of up to $10 at city-owned garages.
Scapicchio says the idea is to get drivers to switch so they can save money on gas and so everyone can breathe cleaner air in the city, because emissions would drop.
He claims it wouldn't cost the city too much right now, because there are only about 100 people in the city who own hybrids.
But city officials are still worried about the cost of the plan.
Scapicchio says if more drivers buy hybrids, then the free parking and discounts would eventually be phased out, because drivers would already be saving the money by using less gasoline.
