A member of Red Sox Nation has been named the 'Sexiest Fan Alive' by People Magazine. Chris Piela, originally of Norfolk, beat out 2,000 other baseball fans to take the title, and win a spot in the magazine's annual 'Sexiest Man Alive' issue.
Piela, 40 and a father of three, was nominated by his wife. An insurance executive who now lives in Georgia, Piela was described by his wife as " amazingly good-looking, extremely fit, a wonderful husband and even more importantly, the best father."
His says his most memorable Red Sox moment was watching Ted Williams honored at the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park.
Editors at People Magazine narrowed the field of 2,000 contestants to nine finalists and invited online fans to cast the final vote. More than 300,000 votes were cast, and in the end Piela came out on top.
"It's a riot that I won," said Piela. "The competition was a lot of fun. The best part was connecting with old friends."
Chris Piela not only will appear in the Nov. 16 issue of People, but he wins two tickets to the 2008 World Series. With any luck, his team will make an encore appearance.
