A University of Massachusetts Medical School doctor has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he solicited sex from an undercover Worcester police officer.
Peter Rice has been released on personal recognizance after his arraignment in Central District Court.
Rice is a researcher in infectious diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, and has said he was "gathering information" when he was arrested.
Rice was arrested Saturday after offering the undercover female officer $ 40 dollars for sex.
A spokesman for the medical school says the 65-year-old Rice has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into his case.
A message left for Rices lawyer was not immediately returned.
Rice is scheduled back in court in December.
