Fans Bat For Red Sox Charity Wines

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Red Sox fans can now drink to the team while contributing to their favorite players' charities.

The Red Sox wines are on sale for the 2008 season and all of the player proceeds go to the player's choice charity.

Fans can buy wines for David Ortiz, Jason Varitek, Kevin Youkilis, Tim Wakefield and Curt Schilling.

Proceeds from Ortiz's Vintage Papi will benefit The David Ortiz Children's Fund, while money from Varitek's Captain's Cabernet and Tim Wakefield's CaberKnuckle will go to Pitching In For Kids.

The David Ortiz Children's Fun provides pediatric critical care for children in the Dominican Republic and New England.  The organization partners with the International Hospital for Children.

Those batting for Curt Schilling can enjoy the Schiling Schardonnay while contributing to Curt's Pitch For ALS, an organization founded by Schilling and his wife Shonda that aims to strike out Lou Gehrigs Disease.

Youkilis' Sauvign Yoouuk Blac will benefit Hits For Kids, which is dedicated to rallying local and corporate support for charities focused on health and wellbeing of children. Visit www.youkskids.org or more information.

Last year, the charity wines sold over a quarter of a million bottles and raised over $320,000 for the charities.

The 2008 wine collection is American made and produced by acclaimed winemaker Susie Selby of Selby Winery in Healdsburg, Calif.

Each bottle will be sold for about $13 at local stores and restaurants and be purchased online. Visit www.CharityWines.com for more information.
