Senator Barak Obama is back campaigning in New Hampshire on Monday. He says he feels good about his fundraising numbers that will be released on Wednesday. He says he will be able to compete effectively throughout the primary season.
With a crowd of voters at the Peterborough Diner, Sen. Obama talked issues, he's not saying how much money his campaign's raised yet. "We have the by-far most number of numbers and the largest number of small donors of any campaign. And so I think what that indicates is the degree to which people have responded to this message that we want a different type of politics."
And as he explained in a one-on-one interview with WBZ's Karen Anderson, he's determined to show -- even as a first term U.S. senator -- he's ready for the White House.
"I haven't been on the national stage as long as some of the other candidates, I've been in elected office longer than some of the candidates who get mentioned, but I recognize that people need to lift the hood and kick the tires and get a sense of my positions in different issues. And that's something I welcome."
Obama calls John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, who is now dealing with terminal cancer, a courageous woman. "I remember when my mother at the age of 53 contracted cancer, and she never recovered, and the strain and heartache that involved. But I also remember she didn't want to be restricted in terms of how she spent her time, and that's something I have the utmost respect for."
And here in New Hampshire, a lot of voters are impressed.
"He's charming, he's just great."
