Boston police have found the SUV used in the kidnapping of a 7-year-old girl in the Back Bay Sunday.
They are questioning the driver, but there is no new information on the whereabouts of Clark Rockefeller, 48, or his daughter, Reigh Boss.
Authorities alleged that Rockefeller, who they said has used several aliases, grabbed the girl Sunday afternoon during a visit supervised by a social worker and fled in a sport utility vehicle driven by another man.
Police located the vehicle Tuesday morning, which is registered out of Medfield to a man named Daryl Hopkins, WBZ has learned. Police have interrogated Hopkins, who they say has been cooperating with investigators. According to police, Hopkins runs a limo company and claims he was hired by Rockefeller on Friday to unknowingly take part in the alleged scheme.
However, police in New York said the black SUV did not make the entire trip to NYC. They say an unidentified woman drove Rockefeller and Reigh the rest of the way and dropped the father and daughter off at Grand Central Station before calling police.
It's unclear where the vehicle switch-off took place, though police sources say Hopkins dropped Rockefeller and Reigh off at Massachusetts General Hospital where they apparently got in a cab and met up with a woman who drove them the rest of the way.
"She states that (Rockefeller) made some reference to going on a yaht or perhaps to Bermuda," said New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Kelly said police believe Rockefeller may be trying to flee with his daughter on a 72-foot yacht named "Serenity." However, he said there are 380 vessels with that name so investigators are checking out each of those.
Massachusetts posted an Amber Alert for Reigh Sunday, but canceled it Monday after New York City police reported that Rockefeller had been seen Sunday night at Grand Central Terminal in midtown Manhattan. New York does not post Amber Alerts for custodial kidnappings if the parent is the person who took the child.
Boston police issued an arrest warrant for Rockefeller on charges of custodial kidnapping. He also was charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon because the social worker was injured while trying to hold onto the vehicle.
Boston police have just released the images of two dresses (pictured to the right) officials believe Clark Rockefeller bought for his daughter. Police say Reigh could be wearing either of these outfits.
Reigh lives with her mother, Sandra Boss, who works in London as a partner in global management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and who also is on the board of The Mount, Edith Wharton's estate at Lenox, Mass.
Little information has been made public about Rockefeller's background, though WBZ learned Sandra Boss became so concerned about Rockefeller's aliases that she asked a judge to restrict his access to their daughter.
Fraser Seitel, a spokesman for the descendants of John D. Rockefeller Sr., said Clark Rockefeller was not descended from that side of the wealthy family, and added there is no indication the fugitive was descended from William Rockefeller, John D. Rockefeller Sr.'s only sibling.
Clark Rockefeller is a former director of Boston's exclusive Algonquin Club but resigned from the club three months ago, club manager Lassaad Riahi said Monday.
Boss and Rockefeller finalized their divorce last December. Rockefeller was only allowed supervised visits with Reigh, which is unusual for a biological parent, according to CBS News legal analyst Lisa Bloom.
"That indicates a judge is concerned about him being alone with her," she told The Early Show Tuesday.
Bloom said that if Rockefeller is captured in Bermuda or the Caribbean, he could be extradited back to the United States.
