A Revere police officer faces dismissal for allegedly fleeing the scene and lying to investigators after witnessing the fatal shooting of a colleague.
Revere's mayor held a public hearing on Wednesday on the status of Sergeant Evan Franklin. Police Chief Terence Reardon has recommended that Franklin be fired.
Franklin has been on paid administrative leave since the Sept. 29 shooting that left officer Daniel Talbot dead.
Franklin, Talbot and two other officers were off duty at the time and had been drinking. Three men face charges in connection with Talbot's death.
Reardon alleges that Franklin fled the scene and lied to state police investigating.
Mayor Thomas Ambrosino says he expects to decide Franklin's fate by next week.
Franklin's lawyer is appealing the recommendation that he be fired.
