Revere Cop Fired After Fleeing Officer's Shooting

REVERE, Mass. (AP) ―

Revere's mayor has fired a police sergeant who fled the scene after witnessing the fatal shooting of a fellow officer and then allegedly lied to investigators about the incident.

Mayor Thomas Ambrosino fired Sgt. Evan Franklin on Thursday.

Officials allege that after witnessing the shooting of Officer Daniel Talbot, Franklin fled and then flagged down an officer responding to the scene to ask for a ride home.

Franklin, Talbot, his fiancee, and two other officers were off duty and drinking beer behind Revere High School on Sept. 29 when they had a confrontation with a teen. The teen called a friend, who allegedly shot Talbot.

Ambrosino called Franklin's conduct "indefensible."

Franklin's lawyer says he will appeal the decision.
