A Brookline teen, accused of driving drunk and operating after his junior operator's license had expired for the night faced a judge Monday, on charges of hitting a pedestrian.
17-year old Robert McGrath is accused of hitting a woman out walking on Commonwealth Avenue between Fairfield and Exeter streets, at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Police say the 21-year old victim was thrown into a snow bank. She was rushed to the hospital and as of Monday was in critical but stable condition.
Since McGrath had a junior operator's permit, he should not have been driving after 12:30, Saturday morning.
While at the police station, officers said they noticed the odor of alcohol from McGrath and that he had slurred speech.
McGrath then failed a field sobriety test, police said. He was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury.
McGrath's father was also cited for allowing his son to drive past the time allowed by his Junior Operator's Permit.
The front right portion of the McGrath's vehicle was damaged along with the windshield and hood.
